#HOMWORK Assignments from Lauren Hom

Almost a year ago, Lauren Hom from Hom Sweet Hom, started a free weekly creative challenge to inspire others to make more art! It's called HOMwork and the assignments are so refreshing. They are perfect to practice hand lettering and design composition.

Here are a couple of favorites that I completed last year. Are you doing them, too? What kind of challenges are you participating in for inspiration and practice?

#HOMwork Assignment: Your assignment this week is to take the overused inspirational quote “Live, Love, Laugh” and change “Laugh” to another “L” word to make it weird, unexpected, and unique to you.

#HOMwork Assignment: Your assignment this week is to create a refreshingly honest valentine. I want you to complete the sentence "I love you so much I'd..." with a weird/silly/gross/honest expression of what true love means to you.

Christmas is approaching and I’m trying to get “a head start” on wrapping gifts this year! We’re normally wrapping on Christmas Eve, so this is an improvement ;)

I stumbled upon this adorable sloth wrapping paper at Kroger and had to use it for our family gift exchanges. It’s such a simple and adorable pattern. I love how the sloth bodies are the perfect placements to doodle the receiver’s name in! #sharpielife If you happen to know the artist of this print, let me know!

Proud plant mama

I'm pretty much obsessed with my little collection of potted plants. We have several displayed outdoors and indoors. These ones shown here are just a few of my favorites - hens and chicks, portulacas, setcreasea, any type of stonecrop. Every time I stumble upon a great glass vessel or pottery while we are out and about, I have the urge to snag it for my collection. I enjoy taking care of these guys and loving that my daughter is taking interest in it as well. It's part of our morning routine to tend to our mini container garden. I cherish little joys like this.

Sketches for my Cousin's Wedding

My cousin is getting married soon and she asked me to do some hand-lettering for their wedding. She loves the natural look and feel of craft paper, so to help set the tone for the project, I'm using craft paper sketchbooks to plan in. Here are a couple of pages from them as I practice for the final pieces. Two more weeks!!
